Power BI Taster

According to Microsoft, Power BI is

“…business analytics solution that lets you visualize your data and share insights across your organization, or embed them in your app or website.”

Often students – and staff – are put off looking at new software, and prefer to stick within their comfort zone.

I haven’t got time…

That looks great, but I don’t think I could get my head around it…

Let’s leave it to the experts…

Various staff comments

Fair enough, but before we start, here are a few student examples from this term. Very few had much previous Excel knowledge.. and NONE had ever opened up Power BI.

CDN Expo 23 – 21st June 2023

We’re going to give you a small taster into Power BI which we use for student tracking. There’s no way that we can cover off everything in 45 minutes, but by hosting everything on this WordPress site, you can have early access to various of our – soon to be – open source materials.

We have included a few ‘best practices’ and tips, and you will find a link to the Introduction to Power BI which we put together as part of the PDA Data Science Level 7. We have also included a couple of starter files which we used in the video below, if you would like to have a go. The starter files are – as mentioned in the video – ‘real’ Moodle reports, but the names have been changed to protect the guilty… 🙂
